Orange Sky Editorial Shoot

A magazine I shoot for asked me to photograph Lucas Patchett and Nic Marchesi from Orange Sky Australia.

In 2014 they started with one van loaded with a couple of washing machines and dryers in the back, travelling around parks in their home town of Brisbane offering their free laundry service to people doing it tough and who had found themselves homeless.

Orange Sky now has a fleet of vans across the country that not only offer laundry but also shower facilities too. They’ve helped restore people’s dignity, improve their hygiene and now their crews of volunteers offer another very important service – they listen, they connect to the people through positive conversation and it is helping to challenge the perception of homelessness.

Orange is such a bright, powerful colour, just like these two great mates who are also clever, fun and most of all kind. So my idea for the photograph was to strip the portrait back to just them, their colour and to meet the two people who created a community that has helped so many. It was a pleasure to meet and work with Lucas and Nic.
